SUMMARY:
According to the literature (Parkes et al, 2008; Sigurdardottir et al, 2010), children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) have a higher risk of mental health problems compared to their peers who do not have any type of pathology. This increased risk can be explained as a result of the complex interaction between biological factors in the brain and the psychosocial context (Sigurdardottir et al, 2010; Parkes et al, 2008; Woolfson, 2004).
These problems tend to affect the child’s life contexts, with a particular impact on parents and professionals who deal with children (teachers, coaches, caregivers) (Parkes et al, 2008; Sigurdardottir et al, 2010) and tend to be persistent over time (Woolfson, 2004).
Behavioral problems, regardless of their cause, affect the way children learn and manage their lives and in children with CP or other neuromotor syndromes they are of significant importance due to the high risk of behavioral problems (Colver, 2010; Sigurdardottir et al, 2010; Parkes et al, 2008; Woolfson, 2004; Marinho, 2011).
Knowing how to manage these issues can be fundamental to prevent the development of emotional and behavioral problems (Parkes et al, 2008; Sigurdardottir, 2010; Colver, 2010; Woolfson, 2004; Abebe, and Hailemariam, 2007).
