INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Objectives and scope
RIAGE is an interdisciplinary, peer-reviewed, open-access journal. Articles in the area of ageing in an interdisciplinary approach will be accepted for review.
Article submissions are accepted in Portuguese, English or Spanish. The journal’s target audience includes researchers, professionals and students in the above-mentioned areas. Authors should consider that RIAGE will give preference to submissions with global relevance, focusing on national and international priorities.
RIAGE accepts submissions of original articles, review articles, short communications, special articles and/or case reports. In specific cases, study protocols will also be accepted.
The journal preferably receives manuscripts in which the data collection was carried out less than five years ago. The editors will evaluate exceptions on a case-by-case basis when the authors provide an acceptable justification.
Ethics in publishing
RIAGE follows the ethical principles of transparency and editorial independence. Manuscripts republished from articles previously published in other magazines/journals will not be accepted. RIAGE does not accept the submission of manuscripts or partial results of the same research.
The concepts and information published in RIAGE articles are the sole responsibility of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the editorial board.
License terms
Authors who publish in RIAGE retain the rights to continue using their work to support scientific advancement, teaching and scholarly communication. By submitting their manuscripts, authors grant RIAGE irrevocable, non-exclusive rights to include the material in the following dissemination sources:
– Reproduce and authorize the reproduction of all or part of the manuscript by third parties, including reprints and photocopies;

Manuscript
Summary
An abstract should be limited to a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 250 words (with spaces). Ideally, abstracts should not contain abbreviations and should not include references. A minimum of three and a maximum of six keywords should be placed at the end of each abstract.
Text
Manuscripts should have the following structure:
Introduction: This section should contain an up-to-date literature review, be appropriate to the topic and problem presented and highlight the relevance of the topic. The objectives of the study should be clearly described at the end of the introduction.
Methods: This section should contain a clear and succinct description of the procedures used, sample, selection criteria, instruments, statistical analysis and other resources.
Results: This section should contain a description of the results found without making interpretations and comparisons. Whenever possible, the results should be presented in tables or figures to be self-explanatory and with statistical analysis.
Discussion: This section should objectively explore and discuss the results, taking into account other observations already identified by other authors/research. The limitations of the study should be pointed out. The discussion should culminate with conclusions indicating avenues for further research, good practice or implications for professional practice.
Conclusion: This section should be brief and contain no more than two paragraphs.
References
Make sure that all references cited in the text are also present in the list of references (and vice versa).
References should be listed at the end of the article and numbered consecutively with superscript Arabic numerals (e.g. 1) in the order in which they were first cited in the text, according to APA style. This number can appear after the author’s name(s) or punctuation marks, as shown below (Pereira 1) In references with up to six authors, list all the authors; in those with more than six authors, list the first 6 followed by et al. When citing two authors, use the names of both authors together with the commercial “e” (&); when citing more than three, cite the name of the first author followed by et al.
The use of the DOI is highly encouraged. Authors are responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness
of the references consulted and cited in the text.
DECLARATION OF CONFLICT OF INTEREST
It is RIAGE policy to require a conflict of interest statement from all authors, included at the end of the manuscript. If there is no conflict, indicate that ‘The author(s) declare(s) that there is no conflict of interest’.
MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION
Articles submitted to RIAGE undergo an external peer review process in which neither the reviewers nor the authors know each other’s identity (double-blind review).
All reviewers are encouraged to declare that they have no conflict of interest to declare before participating in the peer review process. When an external reviewer identifies a potential conflict of interest, the responsible editor will send the manuscript to another reviewer. After the evaluation, the reviewers can take one of the following decisions, according to the recommendations available in the RIAGE Instructions for Reviewers:
i) Accept;
ii) Major overhaul needed;
iii) Minor revision required;
iv) Reject.
When there are differences between the opinions of external reviewers, the editor-in-charge will issue an opinion as an additional reviewer and, where necessary, may consult another reviewer. Regardless of the decision, RIAGE will notify the authors electronically.
The submission system allows authors to follow the progress of the review process. Authors must send revised manuscripts within a maximum of 30 days and send a response to all the comments provided by the reviewers, with the changes made to the text highlighted in some way (for example, in a different color). If RIAGE does not receive a response from the authors, the submission will be withdrawn. Authors should send their responses to the reviewers in a separate file from the main text.
The final decision on whether or not to publish the manuscript rests with the Editor-in-Chief. If any significant ethical failings are identified in the conduct of the study or in the dissemination of research data after approval or publication of the manuscript, the editors reserve the right to apply the necessary penalties.
Before publication, accepted manuscripts may be returned to the authors for approval if changes are made for editorial and standardization purposes, in accordance with the journal’s style.
During the review process, the editors and reviewers will assess the innovative nature, the state of the art, the methodology, the methods used and the impact. After approval, all manuscripts will be subject to a plagiarism detection system using a content similarity tool. The editors will evaluate the results individually and the results will be sent to the authors with the appropriate citations, awaiting their opinion before defining the act as plagiarism, making the document unsuitable for publication (if applicable).
