The ageing of the population is one of the most striking phenomena of the 21st century, with profound implications for health systems, family structures and society in general. Caring for the elderly in a competent, ethical and humanized way has become an unavoidable priority. This Practical Specialization in Care for the Elderly is a response to this reality, offering advanced training, focused on practice, for professionals who want to deepen their knowledge and skills in the area of geriatrics and gerontology.

The training program is designed to provide a rigorous and applied training experience, integrating the latest scientific advances, multidisciplinary approaches and evidence-based practices. Throughout the course, participants will be trained to act in a proactive and differentiated way in the planning, execution and evaluation of care for the elderly, promoting their autonomy, quality of life and dignity.

General objectives

1. Development of Specialized Technical Skills

To enable professionals to provide excellent care for the elderly by mastering specific and up-to-date techniques in geriatrics.

2. Promoting a Comprehensive and Humanized Approach

To train professionals capable of implementing person-centered care, respecting the dignity, autonomy and individuality of the elderly.

3. Integration of Digital Technologies and Tools

Prepare professionals to effectively use emerging technologies in geriatric care and service management.

4. Development of Management Skills

Training in the efficient management of human resources and institutional communication in the social sector.

Specific objectives

In the Field of Direct Care:

  • Drawing up, implementing and evaluating personalized Individual Care Plans (ICPs)
  • Perform safe personal care, transfer and mobilization techniques
  • Plan and implement nutritional strategies suited to geriatric needs
  • Apply strict hygiene and infection control protocols
  • Implementing humanized palliative care

In the Psychosocial Domain:

  • Developing therapeutic communication skills and emotional intelligence
  • Plan and execute socio-cultural animation and cognitive stimulation programs
  • Sensitively addressing issues of intimacy and emotional well-being
  • Resolving ethical conflicts in the geriatric context

In the technological field:

  • Operating digital care management platforms
  • Use monitoring applications and assistive technologies
  • Implement tools to systematically monitor activities

Management:

  • Efficiently managing human resources in the social sector
  • Create and implement institutional digital communication strategies
  • Apply sector-specific labor legislation
