AGING SIMULATOR

AGEING CHALLENGER

What is the Ageing Simulator?

The ANGES Ageing Simulator is a revolutionary educational tool that allows people to experience, in a safe and controlled way, the main physical and sensory limitations associated with the natural ageing process. This innovative equipment is part of the prestigious international network of the German Wolfgang Moll – Age Simulation Suit GERT project.

Through a set of scientifically validated analog devices, the simulator accurately recreates the changes that occur naturally with advancing age, providing a unique awareness and learning experience.

Simulator objectives:

Awareness and empathy

  • Providing a transformative first-person experience;
  • Developing genuine empathy through experiencing the limitations of ageing;
  • Breaking down stereotypes and prejudices related to old age.

Training and Capacity Building

  • Training formal and informal caregivers to provide more humanized care;
  • Training future health, social work and gerontology professionals;
  • Improving communication and approach techniques with the elderly.

Prevention and Security

  • Anticipating risk situations in the provision of inadequate care;
  • Preventing osteoarticular and musculoskeletal injuries in the elderly;
  • Developing strategies to prevent falls and accidents.

Scientific Understanding

  • Demonstrate the natural physiological changes of ageing;
  • Validate the functional limitations of age through scientific protocols;
  • Distinguishing between natural and pathological ageing.

Simulator components:

  • Specific weights for the lower back and wrists (simulate loss of muscle mass and stiffness);
  • Mechanical traction devices for hand, elbow, knee and foot joints;
  • Foot accessories that cause imbalance;
  • Special glasses that blur vision;
  • Headphones that simulate hearing loss.

Simulation capabilities

The simulator allows you to recreate:

  • Changes in hearing and vision (which begin naturally after the age of 40);
  • Joint and muscle limitations influenced by age;
  • Balance and coordination difficulties;
  • Challenges in activities of daily living.

Research and Development

ANGES is continuously carrying out validation studies to prove this:

  • The pedagogical effectiveness of the simulator;
  • The impact on changing professional attitudes;
  • Improving the quality of care;
  • The satisfaction of the participants in the training courses.
